What’s in a name?

The name Barrow Buy is derived from Barrow Boy which was the English name given to traditional market traders who would trade from their wooden ‘barrows’ on cobble stone streets selling a whole range of products. We liked the concept, as these traders would ordinarily sell quality products made by local craftsmen.

We were attracted by the honesty of these traders and the romance of their method of trading. We have moved on a long way from those days, but it remains a special part of retail history which we considered worth recapturing within our store.
